Kursk offensive used as a card to be put on a possible negotiating table with Russia? The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, rejects the accusation. Quoted by Ukrainform, the head of state intervened in the debate of recent weeks, born after Kiev’s military offensive in the Russian region: “Some say that we will play the buffer zone as a card for dialogue. What dialogue? I’ll tell you who says so, it’s Putin. We are not playing any card”.
Zelensky instead responds that the advantages that could arise from such an operation are numerous but diverse and that not all of them can be revealed publicly. First of all, the “exchange fund” of prisoners of war “is something we can talk about openly and it is replenished”. The second result “is the interruption of the Russian operation in the north with a preventive strike. We have fulfilled this task”.
To those who believe it is impossible for Kiev to maintain its positions on Russian territory for a long time, for logistical reasons related to supplies, Zelensky responds that he is “positive about the operation” speaking at a joint press conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda and Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė: “It is complex and it is important that it proceeds according to our plan,” he stressed. In addition to the ‘exchange fund’ of prisoners of war, he then added, “we prevented the encirclement of part of the Sumy region and the Russian desire to occupy the capital of the region, the city of Sumy.” And he then reiterated that Ukraine is not playing any cards for a dialogue with the aggressor with this operation: “We are very open with our partners. We talked about how we are moving diplomatically towards a just peace and the end of the war and we invited everyone to the Peace Formula platform.”
The article Zelensky: “The Kursk operation? Not a card for negotiations. The liberation of hostages was facilitated and the encirclement in the North was avoided” comes from The Daily Fact.
