Tamberi: “They’re spreading colossal nonsense about me. Extreme diet? Here’s the truth”

Gianmarco Tamberi go back to speak on social media after the renal colic that they have conditioned his performance to the Olympic Games Of Paris 2024. Between disinformation and the accusation of an “extreme diet” – which led him to lose significant weight in view of the athletics competitions – the champion wanted to clarify his state of health. “For several days now, thanks to the medicines I’m taking I no longer had any particular pain or colic. The stone is still present but the doctors say it should be on the home straight to be expelled. I don’t want to dwell too much on the things that are being read these days, but to be fair to you it is Right at least that tell you not to trust what you read because most of the stuff that’s going around is colossal nonsense and in my humble opinion also very dangerous for the reader” writes Tamberi on his profile Instagram. “From articles that talk about a diet that made me lose 7/8kg between the European Championships (11/06) and the Olympics (10/08), up to others who say that I drink a maximum of one glass of water a day all year round. As you can imagine, in addition to the general misinformationthese “pearls” could also be harmful to share“.

The Italian athlete then continued: “To give you a more precise idea, my weight (monitored daily all year round) was 77.5 at the end of January, 75.5 in mid-June and 74.0 at the Olympics (the exact same weight as last year at the World Championships). At each training session I drink more than a liter and a half of water and I drink the same amount during the day. My diet has been studied and shared by several professionals and I’ve been following this diet for more than 10 years without ever having any problems and having regular check-ups. It’s hard to think of changing it like that all of a sudden in the most important year of my career without a specific reason. I’m the first to tell you that it’s a very strict and difficult diet, like all the workouts I do during the year they are very hard and designed to push me to the limit but this is the only way that an athlete has for try to reach your highest level“.

Tamberi: “I am genetically predisposed to this type of problem”
The Italian athlete highlighted how, of his own free will, he wanted to make sacrifices in order to return to success after the gold medal in Tokyo. “I would have loved to lie down and enjoy my life and that wonderful victory that came after so much suffering, but I didn’t think it was right. I love to eat and live the good life like anyone else but to win the Olympics in 2021 I had to do an infinite number of sacrifices and I knew that if I wanted to try to repeat myself in Paris, I would have to roll up my sleeves and start all over again, as if nothing had happened. It is a fact that high-level sport is not healthy but this can give you such strong emotions that are worth all the sacrifices made. I know that I have really done everything possible to present myself this season in the best conditions ever and I don’t think I can be accused of anything“.

Back from Paris, but this time without a medal, Tamberi underwent several tests for the problems he had and for the colic he suffered in the past weeks: “I am genetically predisposed to this type of problem. Colic, which after having experienced it I really wouldn’t wish on anyone, is a sudden and violent pain that mostly occurs in subjects, like in my case, who have a family history of kidney stones. It happened. It passed. Now we move on. Finished Poem…it seemed right to me share with you some more correct information after everything I’ve read these days. We hope to see you on the stage soon. As always, thank you all for your closeness and support.”
