A wave of solidarity and passion has invaded Vienna Thursday, when hundreds of Taylor Swift fans, struck by the canceling his concerts due to a terrorist threat, turned their disappointment into a spontaneous celebration of the artist. Thousands of “Swifties” had arrived in the Austrian capital to attend the three scheduled concerts, but the police raid and the announcement of the foiled terrorist plot left an unfillable void. Instead of dispersing, the fans decided to unite in a flash mob which involved not only the streets, but also local shops and businesses.
Hundreds of people gathered in Corneliusgasse, a street named after Cornelia Street in New York, made famous by a Swift song and located near the Ernst Happel Stadium, where the concerts were supposed to be held. Here, and in other areas of the city, The fans sang their favourite’s hits at the top of their lungsexchanging friendship bracelets and creating an atmosphere of celebration and sharing.
