“Denmark must stop the extradition of environmentalist Paul Watson”: Evi’s appeal as she delivers a letter to the Danish ambassador

“Denmark should stop the extradition of Paul Watson in Japan“. AND the appeal launched by the Democratic Party MP Eleonora Evi who decided to deliver a letter to the Danish ambassador to Italy, Dr. Anders Carsten Damsgaard, in which he addressed the request to the Minister of State of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, “the only one with the power to prevent the extradition of the captain to Japan where he risks a 15-year prison sentence”.

Watson was arrested on Sunday 21 July by Danish police at the port of Nuukin Greenland. Watson, Evi explains, was heading towards the North Pacific to block the route of the most great whaler ever built in the history of whaling, the Kangei Marua Japanese whaling vessel, launched in May 2024, “a war machine designed to kill thousands of whales in the most remote corners of the world”. “Japan – Evi denounces – is acting illegally, violating a global moratorium on commercial whaling, implemented in 1986. A moratorium ratified by Denmark”.

The appeal, the MP continues, “arises from a international mobilization and it is shared by many citizens, activists and civil society organizations, such as the Sea Shepherd association, which has been on the front line in Italy for years to fight illegal fishing and the exploitation of our seas”.
